The story of Krumlov Tower (formerly known as Pension in the tower Český Krumlov)
1497
On the 3rd August 1497 the great maestro and the biggest stonecutter of the Rossenberg dominion, Jan Gezinger, was nominated to the lead of the stonecutters, with the right to establish a stonecutter’s guild by a Passau stone works model. The constriction of the tower, gate and walls was started.
1505
The great work is finished. The event was reported it by a Rosenberg's historian and archivist Václav Březan: “Year 1505 Latránská Gate... and the tower above it, which has been standing till today, as well as the bastion in New Town.”
Until the end of the 18th century the tower was used for its original purpose: a cylindrical corner tower with key loopholes connected to city fortification system.
1805
In 1805 the tower was adapted by the duke Josef II. of Schwarzenberg to an apartment for the guard, who was supposed to guard duke’s nearby logs collectors on the Vltava river. The tower is located “between two duke’s gardens and the timber storage area”. From the outside, has been the tower has been preserved in untouched condition with its original medieval plaster.
1930
The tower has been preserved unmodified in its original state, and it’s considered as an exceedingly significant cultural monument, one of the few preserved fortificational objects that document historical development of the town fortification.
1986
The 50 Czechoslovakian crowns memory coin “The city conservation of Cesky Krumlov” was minted in 1986 with four biggest dominants of the city: The castle, the church of Sv. Vitus, the city hall, and the tower.
1990
The tower was sold by the city of Cesky Krumlov to private hands in 1990 and the Pension in the tower was opened.
2008
Krumlov Tower was added to the “Unique hotels of the world” list as the first accommodation in the Czech Republic.
2015
The previous owners sold the tower to our family. Our vision was to perform complete renovation with the love to history and open a unique type of accommodation with a big accent put on every detail and luxury, and a link to the old times.
2016
After a year-long reconstruction the tower has been opened in its today’s appearance in order to offer a unique experience and unforgettable moments in the medieval guard tower. There are only two similar towers in whole of Europe you can spend a night in.
The result is more than 500 years old tower in its original state with standards and luxury of the 21st century.
